Boob Talk...now that I've got your attention

Tonight Craig and I attended a breastfeeding class so that we are somewhat prepared for the all-you-can-eat buffet I will soon become. It was, shall I say, very informative. I think the videos in this class were more disturbing than in the labor and delivery class. I know it's 'natural' and definitely something I want to do but that doesn't mean I don't find it a little uncomfortable to watch.

Some things were a little frightening to see actually, like women 'expressing' their milk and engorgement. Also being told that I will need to feed the baby every 2-3 hours, and time starts once you start feeding not when they are done - so I could feed the baby and in 1 hour turn around and have to feed her again. Yikes! It's seriously like a commerical milk factory - mass production. The straw that almost broke the camels back was when the teacher said I can't pump for 4 weeks! That means mommy dearest gets to enjoy ALL the feedings, night or day, for the first 4 weeks. Seriously?! What the heck is Craig supposed to do, catch up on beauty rest while I walk around like a zombie? It made me almost think twice about this whole 'experience'.

But, no. I am woman, hear me roar. I will not only sacrifice 10 months of my life to carry the baby, giving up normal life pleasantries like morning coffee, evening wine, hour and half long spin classes, skinny jeans and 4 inch heals for boobs the size of canteloupes, pregnancy acne, a thermal body suit that makes me sweat when it's 60 outside, and thighs that not only rub together but could probably start a fire if I walk fast enough but I will also give up those first 4 weeks of sleep so that I can ensure the best health for our daughter. I will do all of this with a happy heart and hardly any complaining... (ok so the complaining part is not so true).

BUT come week 5... it's game time for good ol daddy, who has had to sit on the sidelines and watch the game. He will be the star quarterback, running back, wide receiver and punter (and whatever other positions there are in football).

In all seriousness, if breastfeeding will give our daughter a healthy start in life, that is the most important thing. Even more important than sleep, and for those of you that know me well... that's saying a lot! :)

Just for Giggles

I was searching for one of those fancy quote decals to put in Addie's nursery and came across one that I thought was so cute, I just had to share it:

"I wish I were a glowworm, a glowworm’s never glum. It’s hard to be downhearted, when the sun shines out your bum."

Anything that talks about lights shining out of your bum - I find inspirational. :)
Hope you've been inspired too!

Jeepers Creepers, Where'd Ya Get Those Peepers?

An interesting fact I came across about a newborn's eyesight:

At 30 weeks the babies eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

I found this interesting because, I too, have 20/400 vision!! That's right, I'm as blind as a bat and couldn't tell you apart from a hairy ape without my contacts! Luckily, Addie's eyesight will get better with time but for a while we will be looking at the world through the same eyes.

The BIG 3-0

A milestone week - with only 10 more weeks to go. We are pushing single digit weeks people!
Lots of updates:
- She is between 15.5-16 inches long. The pokes and thumps have turned into full blown jabs and extreme rolling around since she's running out of room in there.
- Weighing in at over 3 lbs - she is now compared to a Head of Cabbage. Oh, it just makes a mom proud.
- She has had the hiccups 3 times. I thought she was tapping to a tune or something the first time I felt it and then finally realized the small, rhythmic beats were hiccups.
- Had my doctors appointment at 30 weeks and she says it's a "Textbook Pregnancy". Everything is on track - even my weight. She told me to keep doing whatever I'm doing (which is eating!). I told her it's getting increasingly hard to exercise and that even if I walk too long/far my back hurts like crazy afterwards. She told me to stop doing it if it's uncomfortable. When I left, I put everything she told me together and basically came to this conclusion: Keep eating and stop exercising! Sweet!!
- Got the office cleared out and painted the nursery this weekend. (Thanks Craig!!) I know it looks like it's still orange in my 30 week picture but I promise - it's a light yellow. The other 2 walls are a creme color. Just need to paint the trim. Next weekend planning on getting the furniture. From there - got to start moving in all her 'stuff' - and believe me the girl has got some 'stuff'!
- We had our Birthing Class on Sat. The videos were pretty graphic and to my surprise Craig did really well with it all. He never even turned his head. He also took lots of notes, which I thought was really cute - since I'm the one doing the labor and delivery and I didn't write one thing down. hehe
Then when it came to the breathing exercises he was very serious and I just giggled. I told him he was much better at all of it so I think he should have her. Wouldn't that be a nice option.

It's getting really close to showtime and we are getting really excited!

29 Weeks

Here's my little 'Butternut Squash'. Looks more like I'm sporting a Butterball Turkey! :) Ha!
Weighing in at over 2.5 lbs - so 'they' say but remember my little girl weighed approx. 2.10 oz at around 28 weeks according to my doctor.
Growing like a weed!
